About this project
Food deserts affect 1 in 5 Chicago residents. Green Table's Urban Gardens project transforms vacant municipal lots into productive food forests — growing fruit, vegetables, and medicinal herbs for communities that lack affordable grocery access.
Each garden is designed and maintained by local residents who receive training in permaculture and food production. 100% of produce stays within a 0.5-mile radius. We also run free cooking workshops and nutrition education classes weekly.

Week 4 of our free cooking workshop at Auburn Gresham garden. Tonight we made a stir-fry using everything grown on site. 23 residents showed up — our biggest class yet. The community is building something real here and it is only getting stronger.
